Dear Westside Families,

I love being the principal of Westside Elementary School.  If you are new to Westside, let me tell you a little bit about myself, I have been an educator for the last 19 years and have been with Twin Rivers/Rio Linda School District for the last 16 years.  I started my teaching career at Marysville Joint Unified in 2002 in a Special Education classroom with students who had various learning disabilities. In 2005, I moved to Sacramento and started teaching at Westside.  I taught third and fourth grades and also served as a student learning coach.  I moved to Pioneer Elementary School in 2014 to serve as their vice principal.  In 2018 I became the principal here at Westside Elementary and Westside Charter.

As you may have guessed from my name, I was not born and raised in the United States. I am originally from Ireland and I moved to the United States in 2001 to complete a Master’s degree in Education at Chico State University. During my time at Chico State I met my husband. We have have two amazing children. I love being a Mom and it keeps me very busy when I am not at work.

I always welcome parents/guardians and community members at Westside.  One of the best ways you can support your children is to stay involved.  This can be accomplished in a variety of ways.  First and foremost, be sure to stay in contact with your child’s teacher. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them with any questions or concerns.  Additionally, we encourage you to become active participants in our school through volunteering to help your child(ren)'s classroom, attending school events, and becoming part of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), etc.

I look forward to partnering with you to make this an exciting and successful year for our students.  Thank you in advance for your support and commitment. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have a suggestion, concern, or just a good story to share. It is through our partnership that we will be able to provide our children with meaningful, educational experiences.

Yours Sincerely,

Niamh Conner Ed.D.
